Color Me Fun Run/Walk
We are officially announcing that we have approval from the Spring-Ford School District and Mrs. Long to hold a color run/walk for Brooke students and their families, which will be named the "Color Me Fun Run/Walk". Keep in mind that this event is geared to the students and is not for marathon runners. This will be an untimed event that emphasizes healthy lifestyle and fun over competition. Some of you may have participated in color runs, but for those of you who don't know what a color run is: "The Color Run is a unique paint run/walk that celebrates healthiness, happiness and individuality. Usually a Color Run is a 5K untimed event in which runners/walkers wear white t-shirts and get showered by colored cornstarch every 1K. It has taken the US and other countries by storm. The "Color Run" has exploded since its debut in 2011 and has tripled in growth, hosting more than 170 events in 30+ countries in 2013." The Brooke "Color Me Fun Run/Walk" will be on a much smaller scale geared to the children, but with the same concept of getting kids, along with at least one parent, healthy by running/walking 1 mile around the school track while having fun. Family, friends, and volunteers will color the runners/walkers by gently throwing colored powder on their shirts. The date is set for March 22nd, with an inclement weather date of March 23rd. There will be a pre-registration cost of $12 for children 11 and younger, and a cost of $15 for 12-year-olds to adult. For those who don't pre-register it's never too late to join in the fun. There will be late registration up to the day of the event but the price will increase. The registration price will include 1 bag of powder, goggles for safety for elementary and younger registrants, and a snack (to be decided). We will be looking into creating t-shirts for the event to be purchased separately along with additional bags of powder. The board has worked together to decide on a basic outline of what we feel will be needed for the event to be successful. I have already spoken to Mrs. Beiber, who is completely on board and excited about the Brooke Color Me Fun Run/Walk, and she will work as our teacher liaison to get as much support as we can and to assist in the facility event planning. Therefore, at this time, we will be asking for volunteers for a core committee to help with the planning and execution of this potentially great event. I will be hosting the first core committee planning meeting at my house on Tuesday, January 21st at 8:00 pm. We need to start planning this event like a month ago so we really need all hands on deck. After our core committee meeting on January 21st, we will be able to hash out some sub committees which may include: registration, food, powder, t-shirts, facility planning, sales, and general volunteers. With everyone's help this could be a huge fundraiser and an awesome, fun event for the students and the entire families of Brooke. We are really looking forward to this and hope we have your support! Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested in attending the core committee planning meeting on Tuesday, January 21st at 8:00 pm. If you are unable to attend the meeting, but are interested in volunteering please let me know via email.

No. 70: pretty good success

PRETTY GOOD SUCCESS… DON RICARDO’S LIFE & TIMES NO. 70 “You’ve had pretty good success doing music.
