Special Meeting Minutes
A Special Meeting of the Board of Education of the Scotia-Glenvil e Central School District was held in the Library Media Center of the Middle School, in said district on May 23, 2011. President Carbone cal ed the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m. Present: Carbone, Conlon, Crapo, Normington, Smith, Yagielski, Superintendent Swartz, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Long, and Business Manager Giaquinto Absent: Benedetto MOVED by Normington that the Board of Education adjourn to Executive Session in order to discuss matters relating to personnel and/or negotiations.
The Board of Education adjourned to Executive Session at 6:15 p.m. and returned to open session at 7:10 p.m. District Clerk DeLong was present during the Open Session. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
HEARING/PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR None CURRICULUM REPORT: ELEMENTARY SOCIAL STUDIES – YEAR 1 [MARTIN ZIAC (ACADEMIC HEAD OF SOCIAL STUDIES) AND ELEMENTARY PRINCIPALS] Martin Ziac, Academic Head of Social Studies, reported to the Board on the new elementary Social Studies textbooks. He explained the needs of the district, the process used to decide which textbooks to purchase, as wel as the positives of these new textbooks and future needs he foresees in this area. The Board asked several questions of Mr. Ziac and thanked him for his report. (This report is contained as Appendix A to these minutes). APPROVE MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT BY AND BETWEEN THE SCOTIA-GLENVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE SCOTIA-GLENVILLE TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION SCHOOL AIDES & MONITORS UNIT MOVED by Normington that the Board of Education approve the Memorandum of Agreement By and Between the Scotia-Glenville Central School District and the Scotia-Glenvil e Teachers’ Association School Aides & Monitors Unit, dated May 23, 2011, as submitted. (This agreement is contained as Appendix B to these minutes).

Approve the fol owing list of additional Inspectors for the Annual District Election held on May 17, 2011: Inspectors John Hoefer Anne Sterman REPORT OF INSPECTORS OF BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION Accept the report of the Inspectors of the Election certifying the results of the budget vote held on May 17, 2011, as fol ows:
1) Resolution to approve the 2011-2012 budget in the amount of $47,080,914 million:

RESOLUTION: ACCEPT GIFT AND DONATION FROM THE US MARINE CORPS – FOX COMPANY, GLENVILLE, NY, TO GLENDAAAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Approve the Resolution, dated May 23, 2011, regarding acceptance of a donation of 300 used basketbal s from the US Marine Corps - Fox Company, Glenvil e, NY, to Glendaal Elementary School, as submitted. (This resolution is contained as Appendix C to these minutes).

COMMUNICATIONS
a) Accept the letter of resignation of Mary Mantica, School Monitor (Glendaal Elementary
School), effective c.o.b. June 23, 2011, with appreciation for her service to the district. (This resignation is contained as Appendix D to these minutes).
b) Accept the letter of resignation of Maria Ward, Teaching Assistant (Senior High School),
effective c.o.b. June 24, 2011, with appreciation for her service to the district. (This resignation is contained as Appendix E to these minutes).
ROUTINE BUSINESS a. Staffing 1) The fol owing instructional positions be abolished, effective July 1, 2011:
1.0 FTE Elementary Teacher – OPAL (Gifted and Talented)
2) The following non-instructional positions be abolished, effective July 1, 2011: 3) Approve the part-time appointment of Vicki Glenn as Teacher Aide (Transportation), in
accordance with Civil Services Rules and Regulations, effective May 24, 2011 through June 30, 2011, with 2010-2011 salary to be at the hourly rate of $9.00. This appointment is conditioned on the school district’s receipt of clearance for the employee from the State Education Department fol owing a criminal history records check in accordance with the provision of Education Law §3035. 4) Appoint Janice Balch as a temporary grant-funded Records Management Clerk (substitute
teacher records), effective May 24, 2011 through June 30, 2011, with 2010-2011 salary to be at the rate of $10/hour.
5) Approve the fol owing additional substitute for the 2010-2011 school year:

7) Approve the fol owing fal coaching appointment for 2011-2012: Football Varsity Head Kevin Warren Step 3
b. Placement of Students with Disabilities
Accept the Placement of Students with Disabilities as recommended by the Committee on Preschool Special Education in their report dated 5/23/11 and by the Committee on Special Education in their report dated 5/23/11.
1) Award the bid for Occasional Electrical Repairs for the 2011-2012 school year to R.B.
Mortensen Electrical Contracting, as per the attached Bid Summary. (This bid is contained as Appendix G to these minutes).
2) Award the bid for Bus Tires for the 2011-2012 school year on an item by item basis, as per
the attached Bid Summary. (This bid is contained as Appendix H to these minutes).
OTHER BUSINESS
The Board briefly discussed the fol owing items:
• The scheduling of a board meeting to discuss the Superintendent’s evaluation • The Middle School Assistant Principal position • The Board meeting informal y for dinner in honor of the two out-going board members • An article about Scotia schools that appeared in the Schenectady ARC newsletter
