There are a number of criteria that will disqualify an individual from being a volunteer blood donor.
YOU CAN NOT DONATE BLOOD IF YOU. . .
1. Do not present proper identifi cation.
3. Are under 16 years of age (16-year-olds must have signed parental consent).
4. Weigh less than 110 pounds (16-year-olds must weigh at least 130 pounds).
5. Have a history of Viral Hepatitis after the age of 10, or ever had Hepatitis A, B or C.
6. Have Hemophilia or other bleeding disorders.
7. Are pregnant or have given birth in the past 6 weeks.
8. Have had Malaria in the past 3 years or visited an endemic area in the past 12 months (see below) 9. Have had dental work or oral surgery in the past 72 hours (cleaning and fi lling - only wait 24 hours).
10. Have had branding in the past 12 months.
11. Have had a tattoo, permanent makeup applied, or body piercing in the past 12 months (one month wait only if applied at a licensed facility in Louisiana, Texas, Alabama or Mississippi - see below for details) 12. Have been given the MMR (Measles/Mumps/Rubella) vaccine or had chickenpox in the past month.
13. Have had heart disease or heart problems (please consult Blood Drive Supervisor).
14. Have ever taken etretinate (Tegison or Soriatane) for Psoriasis.
15. Have taken Accutane, oral Retin-A, Proscar or Propecia in the past month.
16. Have taken Avodart (Dutasteride) in the past 6 months.
17. Have had a blood transfusion or tissue transplant in the past 12 months.
18. Have had certain types of cancer (please consult Blood Drive Supervisor).
19. Have Sickle Cell Anemia (Sickle Cell trait okay).
20. Have a chronic kidney, liver or lung disease (please consult Blood Drive Supervisor).
21. Have taken antibiotics orally in the past 24-48 hours or by injection in the past 72 hours.
22. Have Tuberculosis and are currently taking medication for it.
23. Are HIV positive or have participated in activities that place you at high risk for contracting the virus.
