President’s Message:
The Annual holiday party is this Friday. Thanks to everyone who RSVP’d. 638-2824 or 857-6266 [email protected] Mike Amie is in charge of the catering and Kevin Kiniry has secured the facility for us. Should be a good time! A map and written directions are Walt’s Secret Santa sale was another fantastic event. Lots of interest in model aviation, great demo flying, good company. At the meeting we will assign duties for our New Years Day Fun Fly. It will be at the main hangar on Jan. 1st. There will be food and drink and flying. Bring a dish to pass if you like. The fun starts at 11AM. The January club meeting happens to fall on the same date and time as the STARS auction. If we have a need for a meeting we will have a brief one after the auction. Maybe we won’t need one. Watch for the next newslet- The membership voted unanimously to raise dues. New levels are $45.00 for regular membership and $25.00 for Senior membership (over 65). Jun- ior membership is unchanged at $10.00. Be sure to pay before Jan 31st to avoid the $5.00 late fee. Please submit your renewal with a completed re- On Nov 24th, Phil Artese and I did some buddy-box flying with about 20 Civil Air Patrol cadets and their leaders. It was a cold day but not too windy and fairly dry. Besides the numb fingers, everyone seemed to have a The solar panel has been removed from the impound shed roof for winter storage. It has worked well all summer by keeping the club trainer and buddy boxes charged. It is now inside the impound shed so please be care-ful if you are in the shed. Inside this issue:
Model Forum planning is going well. There will be a swap shop and The Civil Air Patrol will be doing a building event for youths. The next meet-ing for the planning committee is on Wednesday, Dec. 15th at 7:30 at the Denny’s at Erie Blvd. and Genesee St. Feel free to attend. I was asked about winterizing airplanes. See page 2. I hope everyone has a nice holiday and Happy New Year. 638-2824 or 857-6266 [email protected] Clean off all fuel residue with windex or some similar cleaner. If it’s electric, wipe off excess electrons. Inspect for covering problems and repair or replace as needed Empty the tank and run all the fuel out of the engine. Open the carburetor and put in several drops of after-run oil (or Marvel Air Tool oil). Take out the glow plug and put in several drops of oil. Re-install the glow plug and turn the engine over briefly to distribute the oil. Plug the exhaust to keep air and moisture out. Inspect all connections and wiring in the airplane. Repair or replace anything suspicious. Charge the battery and keep it on trickle charge. If you don’t have a trickle charger, charge the battery once a month. Inspect control linkages for looseness. Repair as needed. Clean off dust and dirt. A small soft paintbrush works well for this. Charge the battery and keep it on trickle charge. If you don’t have a trickle charger, charge the battery once a month. Clean it out. Get rid of old rubber bands, glow plugs and any other junk you may have accumulated throughout the season. Disconnect and tightly cap your fuel bottle. Inspect for any physical damage, swelling, etc. Don’t take any chances with these! Discard any suspicious batteries. Store in a LiPo safe container, like an ammo box. It is best to store airplane gear in a dry place at a constant temperature. Storing in a garage where the tem-perature goes up and down with the weather could lead to condensation and engine bearing failure. It could also cause warpage and other moisture related damage to the airframe. The best place to store your planes would be your living room. Most of us will have to accept a compro-mise here. General: You’ve got a long winter ahead of you. Spend some time now assessing the condition of your air-craft and correct problems thru the winter. When spring hits you’ll be ready to go, especially if you store your planes in the living room!
