EMS CLASSIFICATIONS FACT SHEET

Proposed EMT I Classification Transition Strategy

• In order to be employed at a Technician Paramedic level employees must possess • EMT I employees who do not attain a Technician Paramedic license will be placed in a Technician position provided that the employee has attained licensure at that level and provided that a position is available. Where a position is not available the employee will be laid off in accordance with the collective agreement.
Proposed EMT II Classification Transition Strategy

1. In order to be employed at a Technician Intermediate Paramedic level employees must possess a Technician Paramedic license and must possess all of the competencies listed in Appendix A (Technician Intermediate Paramedic). 2. It is recognized that a transition phase is required in order to allow employees currently in the EMT II classification to be trained to possess all the competencies listed in Appendix A (Technician Intermediate Paramedic). o Category 1 – Subject to 3 below, employees who possess a Technician Paramedic License and who possess 75% of the competencies (minimum 20 competencies) listed in Appendix A (Technician Intermediate Paramedic), including ACLS, will be placed step on step on the Technician Intermediate Paramedic salary scale. o Category 2 – Subject to 3 below, employees who do not possess 75% of the competencies listed in Appendix A (Technician Intermediate Paramedic), will remain on the EMT II salary scale and progress along the scale based on the progression provisions in the collective agreement. 3. Upon request employees currently employed in the EMT II classification will be provided the opportunity for education in order to possess full level of competencies. 4. It is anticipated that the education can be provided and completed within 24 5. Extension to the 24-month period will apply in the event the Employer cannot deliver the education within the 24-month period. 6. Category 2 employees who successfully complete the competency training will be placed on the Technician Intermediate Paramedic salary scale effective the date that the competency training is completed. 7. Employees who do not possess a Technician Advanced Paramedic license will be 3.
