Mr. Ryan Alessi, reporter with Insight Communications as senior managing editor and host of Pure
Politics, in charge of news and public affairs coverage. Alessi has covered politics for more than 10
years, including 7 years as a reporter for the Lexington-Herald Leader. Alessi is a native of Baltimore
and a graduate of Ohio University.

Mr. Kenny Colston, is the Frankfort Bureau Chief for Kentucky Public Radio (a collaborative effort of
public radio stations in Kentucky). Colston has covered Kentucky's Capitol and state government since
2010. He is a Louisville native, and a graduate of the University of Kentucky.
Mr. Joseph Gerth, is political writer for The Courier-Journal, Kentucky’s largest newspaper, covering
Kentucky politics. His weekly column appears on Mondays in the newspaper’s Metro section. Gerth is
originally from Louisville, has been at the newspaper since 1988.

EmaA non-profitof colleges and universities, the Kentucky Institute for International Studies
sponsors summer and semester study abroad programs in over 20 countries in Europe, Asia,
Africa, Canada, and Latin America. An acknowledged leader in international education, KIIS is also
recognized as one of the most cost-effective study abroad organizations in the United States. KIIS's
objective is to make the international experience available to the widest range of participants, and we
work hard to keep expenses down so that our programs can stay within reach of the typical college or
university student. Over the last 37 years, KIIS has provided life-changing international experiences for
more than 9000 students. In addition, KIIS has provided hundreds of faculty members from our consortial
institutions with the chance to teach and do research abroad, and feels that these faculty development
opportunities are equally important.
