Crash cart review

The crash cart either on the Medical floor or the Emergency Department wil be checked every 24 hours.
Nurse wil make sure that the cart is locked. Drawers wil need to be checked to be sure al are locked. The cart is secured with a plastic numbered tag.
The nurse wil charge and discharge the defibril ator at the pre-programmed joules by utilizing the options test button. The defibril ator is to be unplugged when checked to see that the battery is Once the test is done, the monitor wil print out a strip indicating that the machine passed the test. This strip is to be placed under the check-off sheet, initials of nurse on strip, and secured with tape.
Place the tape in such a manner as to not cover up the writing as the tape wil cause the writing to fade The nurse is to write on the monthly check sheet by the date the number of the tags on the cart and The cart on the Medical floor is to be opened weekly to check the supplies. This check list is on the back of the daily shift form. There are 2 times for days and 2 times for nights to open and check the cart.
Should the cart be opened and after use, the cart is to be locked by placing a yel ow numbered tag on the cart to alert the pharmacy staff that the cart was opened and they wil check and restock the meds as needed. Additional supplies wil be checked by RT and Nursing as needed to restock the cart after use.
At the end of the month the sheet is sent to the Nursing office or ER supervisor for a QA to be done as to whether the cart/defibril ator were checked every 24 hours.
Nurses wil be assigned a monthly QA check of the crash cart to be turned into the Nursing office.
